Cape Coral, Florida is located on a peninsula bordered by the barrier islands of the Gulf of Mexico on the west and the Caloosahatchee River on the south and east. The city features over 400 miles of waterways, with many homes located along canals. This is in Lee County, part of the Fort Myers statistical area. This is the largest area between Miami and Tampa.

The district includes nine elementary schools with grades K-5, three middle schools with grades 6-8 and three high schools. Charter schools include two elementary, a middle and high school. The Lee County High Tech Center North School is also in Cape Coral.
Florida Gulf Coast University is one of several colleges located in neighboring Fort Myers.
Lee Memorial Health System and the Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers are the major health care providers. The Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida in Ft. Myers is also part of the system. Doctors and clinics associated with LMHS are located in Cape Coral and other parts of the county. The smaller Cape Coral Hospital is also part of the system.
Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is located in Ft. Myers.
